A Medically-Based Program,
Backed by Proven Results
The Transformations Program has a long history of helping many achieve their health goals. It’s a program that uniquely combines medicine, lifestyle, fitness and nutrition into one program designed around you. Located in the beautiful Napa Valley, the program takes a holistic approach and aims to encourage weight loss and lifestyle change by balancing participants’ physical needs with their social, emotional and spiritual needs.
Statistically significant program results are available on weight loss and changes in BMI, laboratory values and blood pressure for 284 participants enrolled in the residential program from May 2004 through May 2007.
Of the 284 enrolled participants, 214 (75%) were females and 70 (25%) were male. Mean body weight on day 1 of the residential program was 214.9 lbs. for females and 262.5 lbs. for males. Mean weight loss on day 10 of the program was 5.2 lbs. (-2.5%) for females and 7.2 lbs (-2.8%) for males. Similarly, mean change in BMI on day 10 was -2.5% for both females and males.
For the 284 participants, mean reduction in key laboratory values on day 9 were: glucose (-9%), triglycerides (-28.0%), total cholesterol (-15%), LDL (-12.7%), HDL (-11.0%), and hs-CRP
(-29.0%). Mean drop in blood pressure (BP) on day 10 was 8.0 pts. (-6.5%) for systolic BP and 7.0 pts. (-8.8%) for diastolic BP.
Reductions in plasma levels of hs-CRP in Transformations Program participants compare favorably with results of clinical studies with statin drugs. Program participants showed a -29% reduction in hs-CRP levels by day 9. In comparison:
Patients treated with simvastatin showed a -13.8% reduction in hs-CRP at 12 weeks (Hanefeld, M, et al. “Anti-Inflammatory Effects of Pioglitazone and/or Simvastatin in High Cardiovascular Risk Patients with Elevated High Sensitivity C-Reaction Protein.” JACC 2007 Jan 5: 49: 290-297).
The Jupiter Study (NEJM Nov. 8, 2008) showed a 37% median decrease in hs-CRP in 1.9 years in the group of patients on Rosuvastatin (Crestor). The LDL levels dropped by 50% and the risk of cardiovascular disease morbidity and mortality was cut by almost half. These results are more dramatic than the results of other statin drugs that only dropped by CRP by 13%. Our programs drop the CRP by 29% in 9 days, showing the power of lifestyle change and the importance of lifestyle as part of an aggressive approach to reducing the risk of heart disease.
The chart below provides statistically significant program results on weight loss and changes in Body Mass Index (BMI), laboratory values and blood pressure for 284 participants enrolled in the two-week Transformations Weight Management program between May 2004 and May 2007.
